I have 1GB. How much would be good for a virtualmachine, don't forget that i'm using Ubuntu 15.10 in it.

Even if it requires only 512MB or RAM, VirtualBox will need more. About 768MB. I'm sure that your host (read: the OS that really running) will lag alot once you start the Virtual Machine.

You can't run a self-host server 24/7 on any OS unless you keep your PC on. Server hosters rent and use a VPS in order to do so which is kept running all the time by the VPS hosters.

If you want to self-host a cs2d server do not attempt it with a linux based OS at all unless you know your way through the terminal and commands. The easiest way to self-host is on windows where all you have to do is download the windows cs2d server executable, copy it to your cs2d folder and run it by double clicking on it.

If you want to learn your way through the linux distribution as you said then start with ubuntu. Ofcourse, the default desktop will lag. You'll need to install lubuntu which is a light-weight desktop. I'm easily running it on a very old laptop with RAM less than 1GB. This is where you do your research on google.

Just no...

I would recommend getting windows server to your dedicated machine.
(VPS *sigh*)

Cause its windows,ok?
It will be simple it can run .exe files like normal windows does etc.
and i tried to host a server so it actually went pretty easily,i just went to internet explorer while connected and downloaded cs2d dedicated server( lel i forgot the game files so yeah) so it seemed to start up normally, but i missed the game files so i think it should work.

I tried to use ubuntu once it was too complicated...

Please, just get windows server to your pc/machine.
it shouldnt be so hard use Deamon tools for the iso etc.
(Insert rick roll'd line here)
Windows never gona let you down!
(Note/PS:I only recommend ubuntu if you got no money or no chance of getting windows)
