But I think everyone should understand that a person spends his personal free time and energy to create you a good mood while playing in his mod. So I think it is worthy to thank for that.
Throughout the world, the same attitude to software piracy -
The developer takes time to create a masterpiece and then he asks a price for it, and pirates also spread someone else's work for free.
Who is right and how to treat it solves every man.
So in this case payment is correct way to thank author, his support, his initiative of development of mod/game so you can continue to get game fun.
I also spend time on modding in CS2D, so I appreciate big, great and thoughtful projects and scripts and otherwise say respect to their authors. So if i will play then i will pay. Even if I'm Russian and I love a freebie.
@ GeoB99, XoOt: in total, Pagyra said it very well.
Because we are surrounded by business - everyone is looking for profit, even to make a donation - that in this case - when a player buys a virtual items or bonuses - player gets barely perceived benefits in exchange for a pay ("donation").
Note similar systems of monetization of all known games - like sale of effects and skins for virtual weapons in CS:GO.

But those are profitable, unlike the items in CS2D.Note similar systems of monetization of all known games - like sale of effects and skins for virtual weapons in CS:GO.
Items in games like CS:GO and TF2 are bought massively because they have real value, they can be bought for lower and sold for higher. They are bought for investing.
Because the items in Minecraft 2D clearly don't have any real benefits, you have to manipulate the Skinner box, which will make you a shitty person. (if you're too lazy to google it: it's abusing the addictive minority for profit using certain tactics, meaning you get your money from people with serious problems)

*Cough* Casinos *Cough*
Does that make them a-holes? Yes. Do they care? No, they're getting money out of it.
Let him do what he wants. If I made a game and I wanted to earn money out of it, I'd sell it or sell in-game items rather than relying on donations. Sure, it may not be a nice thing to do but that's life - people abusing other people for profit. Actually it may not even be abusing. You're just getting extra fun for cash. Think of all the memberships, cash upgrades, DLCs, etc. etc.

While the problem feels nonexistent because "it's just a small amount of money anyway", in reality, only a very small percentage of players pay in freemium games, and they are all addicts. The trick is to get as much money as possible from the the tiny amount of players using certain tactics designed to abuse addicts.
(of course, this excludes freemium games that are actually enjoyable and not manipulative)
By making the game all about money, you might as well give up on making the game actually fun and enjoyable.
Don't we play games to be entertained?
EDIT: DLCs are different from micropay since they're actual content and also since Minecraft 2D obviously can't sell DLC. Just be honest and say it's a donation instead of squeezing in pay-to-win bullshit.
